Balancing Act

When a passion grips you, it is difficult to keep balance. When a deadline looms, how can you focus on anything else? Yet, if your passion takes all your focus from other areas of your life, not only will those other areas suffer, but so will your passion.

In order to thrive as human beings, we need a rhythm of doing and resting. We need a social network of family, friends, and community. We need our spirituality and connection to something greater than ourselves.

To thrive and succeed, to acheive our passion's goal, we all need balance.

So, let's get real. Looking over at the color wheel on the left, and it seems like there simply is not enough time in the day to do all that must be done to participate in all the areas of life. With the demands of family life, the pressing urgency of work projects , the challenge of self-care, etc., it seems like it is impossible to succeed in all these areas. It is not. You can succeed with awareness, careful choices, and the grace of God.

If you choose activities and goals that fulfil multiple purposes in your life,
you really can have it all.

Here are an example that one coaching client discovered: "Walk and Talk" - A client who was on the phone constantly with business calls, also needed stress release and fitness. He chose to use a quality, comfortable cell phone with headset. Then he would make his business phone calls while walking. He found he was more relaxed after a series of calls ... and he was done with his workout for the day!

Keep your eyes open and get creative about ways that you can tend multiple areas of your life by choosing activities that have a positive effect in many ways.
